Although avocado oil it is classed as a vegetable oil, it is actually a fruit since it has a stone – but none-the-less, it can yield a staggering 30% oil. It is a great oil to use as carrier oil when performing aromatherapy massage.

Avocado Oil is a rich heavy oil, that is deeply penetrating and rich in vitamins A and D, lecithin, potassium as well as vitamin E.

The Avocado oil is green/light green in color as it still contains chlorophyll and is classified as a mono-unsaturated oil.

It is often used for clients with dry or mature skins, or people suffering from eczema or psoriasis, and is very useful when treating sun or climate damaged skin that is dehydrated and undernourished, as it is said to help with regenerating the skin and softening the tissue.

Uses:

  • Moisturise dry and damaged skin – it contains Vit A, Vit D, lecithin and potassium
  • Accelerate wound healing – The fatty acids and linoleic acids are believed to help achieve quicker results
  • Moisturise the scalp – the intense moisturising effect of the oil should help heal dry and flaky skin (incorrectly called dandruff)
  • Help sooth psoriasis and eczema – The fatty acids and vitamins contained are said by some to sooth these conditions

Although it can be used pure, it is in most cases mixed with another carrier oil, such as Almond oil, or Grapeseed oil to make up 10 – 30 % of the carrier mixture.

Use this oil as part of carrier or base for treating extremely dry and mature skin – combine this with your choice of the following essential oils:

Rose – It is used to repair broken capillaries, inflammation as well as skin redness and is useful in eczema and herpes.

Rosehip – one of the most rejuvenating and regenerating compounds to be found in our view

Frankincense – treats oily skin, rejuvenates more mature skin, while at the same time helping wounds, ulcers and sores heal better.

Galbanum – used to treat inflamed or infected skin conditions and painful lower legs, feet, hands and wrists.

Labdanum – used to treat inflamed or infected skin conditions, slow healing wounds, swollen lymph nodes and to aid with lymph drainage.

Sandalwood – assist with chapped, dry or inflamed skin and has wonderful moisturizing and hydrating properties, which are great for anti-ageing skincare. The toning effect is useful when fighting oily skin.

Lavender – The soothing and anti-inflammatory action of lavender oil will also have a balancing action on the skin and can be used for dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, boils, carbuncles and acne. it will help ease the pain of sunburn and sunstroke and will also counter the itching effect of insect bites.

Calendula – This oil is great to help with sore, inflamed and itchy skin conditions, also for burns, eczema and nappy rash, as well as sore cracked nipples.
